GSEP Marco Garcia Memorial Fellowship Scholarship

Salutation: Dear Mr. and Mrs. Garcia; The Enrique and Lucy Garcia Family Foundation established the scholarship in memory of their beloved son, Marco Garcia (1973-1995), who noticed a substantial need for more Mexican-American psychologists. The scholarship was instituted to celebrate and remember Marco’s life, spirit, and vision. Their oldest son was a very talented and gifted artist and musician with devotion toward social activism. Marco made quite an impact and touched many people during his short life and he continues to do so in spirit. It is hoped that the Marco Garcia Memorial Fellowship will help him continue to “touch” and impact the lives of others while helping to fill a need in the mental health field.The scholarship applicant must be enrolled full-time in a Psychology program (100% online Psychology at Pepperdine are not eligible) and must be Mexican or Mexican-American. The student must also be enrolled for the subsequent spring trimester as the funding is awarded in the spring term. A three-page essay and one letter of recommendation from a Pepperdine University faculty member or clinical supervisor is required.

We are pleased to inform you that we are now accepting 2021-2022 applications for the Marco Garcia Memorial Fellowship. Up to 12 GSEP students will be chosen for this scholarship opportunity.

The Marco Garcia Scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to students pursuing a graduate degree in psychology. It was established to promote mental health services in the underserved multicultural community with an emphasis in providing direct services to the Mexican-American population.
